About Joe Hamilton
Our School
Joe Hamilton Elementary School
Joe Hamilton is known as the Home of the Sea Otters. We are located within the city limits at 1050 E. Street. Joe Hamilton is a preschool through fifth grade school. We have a School Site Council and a Parent Teacher Organization and we encourage all parents to partner with us in their child's education. Students in grades K-4 get music and students in grade 5 have the opportunity to be part of the school's band. We offer free breakfast and lunch to all students. We provide a healthy morning snack three days a week for all students and we have an After-School Program that students may attend each school day until 6:00pm. Our team believes that it takes students + teachers + parents for a successful education to occur. We encourage all parents to attend our family engagement opportunities. We begin our year with a Back-to -School Night and end it with our annual Field Day Celebration. Please check our calendar and Facebook page for dates of all family engagement opportunities.
History
Joseph Mitchell Hamilton devoted many years of his life to educating young people in Del Norte County Schools from 1896 to 1910. Joseph was a teacher, coach, and superintendent and he had a positive influence on many young people during his time in each of these roles. In 1957, eleven years after Joe Hamilton's retirement, his educational dedication was recognized by Del Norte County when they named their newest elementary school in honor of him.
